As in years past, the Ships Amateur Radio Club will be again participating in the Museum Ships Weekend activities in 2016. This year the Ships Amateur Radio Club will be sponsoring two memorial operations collocated in Rogers City Mi. with the Great Lakes Lore Maritime Museum. The first operation will utilize the call sign of W8B and will honor the SS Carl D. Bradley. The SS Carl D. Bradley sank during a storm on Lake Michigan on November 18th, 1958. A total of 33 sailors lost their lives. There were only 2 survivors. The second operation will utilize the call sign of W8C and will honor the SS Cedarville. The SS Cedarville sank on May 7th 1965 in the Mackinaw Straits. 10 sailors lost their lives. Both the SS Carl D. Bradley and the SS Cedarville called Rogers City Michigan home port and their loss had a great impact on the community.
Both W8B and W8C will be on the air on multiple bands. As in years past with previous Ships Amateur Radio Club special events during Museums Ships Weekend, we will be offering a downloadable certificate for stations that work both W8B or W8C. Just for grins, try to work us on as many bands as possible. Just click on the picture to download or here. You may also get individual QSL cards for both W8B and W8C via W8CDB.
Hope to hear you all on the air during Museum Ships Weekend.!!
